Pascale Giorgi, 2021.
cement, quartz chips, marble dust, tomato plants, soil, bamboo trellis
1700mm x 900mm x 900mm

An aspirational tomato garden grows from the blinding white sands of Cottesloe. Battered by southerly winds, saturated with salt, the little plants grow and grow and become tastier with every insufferable day under the impossible Australian sun, which squints eyes and melts ice creams. An enclosure of cement balustrades and lions protect their delusion from the cruel ocean and sticky tourists hands which come to grab the fruits that have been growing for the past months over the course of a long hot Australian summer. The artist visits the garden everyday to tend to the garden, watering and pruning.

Exhibited as part of Sculpture by the Sea Cottesloe, 2021.
